Meeting on Wednesday, February 2nd

The next Queen’s Game Developers Club meeting is set for Wednesday, February 2nd, at 8:00pm!  Come and join the fun in Goodwin 247.

We are trying to arrange another guest speaker to come and chat with us. If all goes well, we hope to have Flash game developer Sash Mackinnon join us remotely!  Sash has created some visually stunning, and very addictive games. You can check them all out on his site:

If Sash can’t make it this week, we’ve got some secret goodies planned. We’ll be talking about games; what’s not to love? And if Sash doesn’t come, we’re going to bring up the secret beta of his game anyway and see what his next project is all about, in the name of beta-testing. (spoiler: it looks pretty sweet)  We’ll also have the ever-popular game design group-exercise.

If you were unable to make it to our last meet, we have good news! You can now enjoy Jeffrey Yim’s presentation on his experience in the game industry on our website:

Please come out and join us on Wednesday!

If you didn’t make it to our last meeting, you missed a great talk by our invited speaker, Jeffrey Yim. But we have good news! You can now watch the presentation online (see below).

Jeff is a former Queen’s student. In his presentation to the QGDC, he discusses his experiences working in video game development.

Meeting on Wednesday, January 19th

Our first meeting of 2011 will take place on January 19th at 8:00pm in Goodwin 247! Based on our poll, Wednesday evenings work best for most people – sorry to those who can’t make it. 🙁

Jeff Yim, a former Queen’s student, will be joining us live from Vancouver via Skype! Jeff has experience as an independent game developer, as well as working for EA. He will first tell us about his experiences in the games industry, and then answer all of our questions (ok, maybe not ALL of them). If we have time, we’ll try out another game design group-exercise.

See you on Wednesday!

Hello 2011!

Welcome back! Or, if you stayed around Kingston like some of us did, .. uh, hi, I guess?

We’re going to be starting up again with some meetings, so if you don’t mind, can you fill in the slots that generally work for you?  Ignore the actual date, and treat Monday, January 10th as “Monday in general”.  I sure hope this works!

Watch your email for news about the upcoming meetings, and we hope you took some time to write some games over the break!  Happy new year, everyone.
